CAREYSBURG, Montserrado County – The Philip Farm House Fire has left more than eight residents homeless after a devastating blaze destroyed a three-bedroom house on Thursday morning in Philip Farm Community, Careysburg Statutory District, amid an escalating land dispute that community members say has created growing tension in the area.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning when a fire broke out at approximately 10:00 a.m., reducing the entire residential structure to ashes and leaving behind extensive property damage. The house, which also included a boys’ quarter on the property, was completely destroyed by the blaze.
According to eyewitnesses and family members present at the scene, the incident may be connected to a long-running land ownership dispute involving a man identified as Prince Wheyee, commonly known as “Sheekey,” who is reportedly claiming ownership of more than 20 acres of land in the Philip Farm Community.
Land Dispute Tensions Escalate in Philip Farm Community
Residents in the area told local reporters that tensions over ownership rights have been building for several months, with disagreements between affected residents and individuals claiming ownership of portions of land becoming increasingly tense.
One of the victims, identified as Madam Hellen Guwor, said she strongly believes the destruction of her home was not accidental but may have been a deliberate act connected to the land dispute that has remained unresolved for months.
According to Madam Guwor, she and Prince Wheyee have been involved in an ongoing legal battle at the Probate Court in Careysburg, where the matter has reportedly remained without a final resolution. She said the prolonged legal uncertainty has created growing tension surrounding ownership claims in the community.
Family Loses Cash, Phones and Personal Belongings
Speaking following the incident, Madam Guwor alleged that in addition to the destruction caused by the fire, valuable personal property was lost during the incident. She estimated that the family lost approximately US$1,500 in cash, more than L$50,000 Liberian Dollars, and approximately seven smartphones, along with several other personal belongings that were either destroyed or reportedly taken during the confusion surrounding the fire incident.
The devastating fire has left more than eight members of the affected family homeless, forcing them to seek temporary shelter while trying to recover from the sudden loss of their residence and valuable possessions.
Community members who witnessed the incident described the scene as heartbreaking, with family members struggling to save personal belongings while flames quickly engulfed the structure.

Although authorities confirmed that no deaths or physical injuries were reported, the emotional and financial impact on the affected family has been severe.
The victims are now appealing to members of the public and humanitarian organizations for immediate assistance as they attempt to recover from the disaster.
