MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Liberia Drug Crisis is becoming a major national concern. The Liberia Protest Coalition (LPC) has now called for an international investigation into recent major drug trafficking cases reported in the country.
The coalition includes more than 37 civil society groups and youth organizations. Members say Liberians deserve transparency and full accountability in all major narcotics investigations.
Coalition Petitions U.S. Embassy
The Liberia Protest Coalition has officially submitted a petition to the United States Embassy in Monrovia. The group is demanding an independent international investigation into several major drug cases that have raised public concern.
According to the coalition, Liberia cannot continue seeing repeated drug-related incidents without the public receiving clear answers from authorities.
US$19 Million Cocaine Seizure Raises Questions
One of the main concerns involves the reported seizure of about US$19 million worth of cocaine at Roberts International Airport in 2026.
The coalition says the size of the drug seizure has created serious concern among citizens. Many people are asking how such a large shipment was able to pass through one of Liberia’s most important security zones.
The group believes this case needs deeper investigation. Members say the public deserves to know everyone connected to the incident.
Earlier Drug Case Also Under Review
The coalition also pointed to another drug-related case reported in 2025. That case involved approximately LRD 56 million.
According to the LPC, both cases suggest that the current Liberia Drug Crisis may be bigger than what has been publicly disclosed so far.
They say repeated drug seizures are damaging public trust in government institutions.
Calls for Full Transparency
The coalition wants investigators to review customs records, airport security clearances, cargo inspection documents, and travel records connected to both incidents.
The organization also wants authorities to investigate whether public officials had direct or indirect involvement in the reported drug cases.
Coalition members say transparency is necessary if Liberia wants to strengthen confidence in its justice system.
International Partners Asked to Intervene
The Liberia Protest Coalition is asking international organizations to support an independent review process.
The group specifically mentioned the United States government, ECOWAS, the African Union, and the United Nations.
It says international support is needed to make sure investigations remain fair and credible.
Growing Regional Security Concerns
Drug trafficking remains a growing concern across West Africa. International agencies continue warning about the expansion of narcotics networks across the region.
According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), criminal groups continue using weak border systems to move illegal narcotics through African countries.
Security experts say Liberia must strengthen its institutions before the problem becomes more difficult to control.
Public Pressure Continues to Grow
The growing Liberia Drug Crisis is now becoming a major public issue. Citizens are demanding stronger anti-drug enforcement and greater accountability.
Recent reports published by Liberia Media have also highlighted increasing public concern over governance and national security challenges.
The coalition warned that Liberia must not become what it described as a narco-state.
It says democracy, justice, and the rule of law must remain protected.
In its final statement, the group said Liberians deserve answers regarding every major narcotics case affecting the country.
“Liberians demand transparency, accountability, and justice.”
