ZWEDRU, Grand Gedeh County — TOP FM 105.3 MHz has dismissed its News Director, Abraham D. Cooper, following allegations of financial misconduct involving funds reportedly intended for the station’s educational program, The Class Reloaded.
According to a termination letter issued by Teach Our People Communications Incorporated, the parent company of TOP FM, management said the decision followed an internal investigation into the alleged misappropriation of approximately US$750 collected between January and May 2026.
The letter, signed by General Manager Patience Baye Koromah, alleges that Mr. Cooper received monthly payments intended to support relay costs for The Class Reloaded, an educational radio program aimed at assisting students preparing for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Management stated that although the program was suspended after sponsors reportedly failed to provide funding, payments totaling approximately US$150 per month allegedly continued to be collected during the period under review.
TOP FM described the alleged actions as a serious violation of the trust placed in station personnel and said the matter raised concerns about accountability and transparency within community broadcasting.
“The integrity of our institution is paramount, and we cannot condone any behavior that jeopardizes its stability or reputation,” the General Manager stated in the communication.
As part of the dismissal process, Mr. Cooper has been instructed to return all station property, including identification cards, recording equipment, and official documents, while completing any outstanding administrative requirements with the Human Resources Department.
According to TOP FM management, digital evidence, including screenshots of Mobile Money transactions allegedly linked to payments associated with The Class Reloaded production team, has been secured as part of the station’s internal review process.
The dismissal notice was copied to the Chairperson of the TOP FM Board, the Chief Executive Officer, members of The Class Reloaded production team, personnel records, and the Grand Gedeh County Journalists Association (GGEJAL).
Background
TOP FM launched The Class Reloaded in 2024 as a weekly educational and youth empowerment program designed to support students preparing for national examinations across Grand Gedeh County.
The program was reportedly placed on hiatus earlier this year following challenges related to sponsorship funding.
Commitment to Transparency
Despite the controversy, TOP FM management said it remains committed to transparency, accountability, and responsible public service broadcasting.
The station expressed regret over the situation and emphasized its determination to maintain public confidence in its operations.
At the time of publication, LiberiaMedia had not independently verified the allegations contained in the termination letter, and no public response from Mr. Cooper had been made available.
